London will always be open to the world, proud of our diversity and inclusive to everyone
MTArt Agency and Dazed have teamed up on an Exhibition Competition for
the Mayor of London’s ‘LondonisOpen’ campaign.
For its 2019 project 'The Present Tense', Dazed magazine asked its readers to submit photographs taken on the streets of the UK. It then asked a range of high profile figures to select their favourite images. The photos highlighted — captured by Londoners or those visiting the city — are selected from a wider pool of submissions that showcase its thriving diversity.
As part of this exhibition, one of LondonisOpen’s EU influencersFrench born Londoner Marine Tanguy, curated the exhibition at City Hall. Marine had her first taste of art gallery management when she was just 21 years old, but she didn't like what she saw. She felt that the traditional gallery model didn't allow for works from all demographics. She decided to change this by opening MTArt in London in 2015. It's an agency for up-and-coming artists, helping them pay for studios, showcase their work through public art installations, virtual galleries and commercial partnerships and find buyers.
The images shown in the exhibition of artists Leo Caillard and Jennifer Abessira, highlight the positivity in London and for Londoners at this moment in time; how we need to think with our hearts, remain united and in dialogue with everyone.
#LondonIsOpen was launched by the Mayor, Sadiq Khan, to show that London will always be open to the world, proud of our diversity and inclusive to everyone.
It shows that London remains entrepreneurial, international and full of creativity and possibility. It reassures the more than one million EU nationals who live in London that they will always be welcome and belong.
